EC North Dakota | So much depends on the stage of your operation. I've been farming 27 years and no longer need to do any planning or budgets or whatever. But I really enjoy doing them. Especially now when farming is 100 times easier than the 80's. Most business' in the US wouldn't dare walk into a bank and ask for a loan without a well thought out business plan complete with projections with assumptions included. Yet a whole lot of farmers think the bank should understand that they have it figured out in their head and everything will be fine. Some guys have enough to do that, most young guys don't.
You may say, well you can always gain by detailed planning. Yes that's true and the guys with experience are doing the detailed planning in their mind. Others are happy where they are a don't give a s... But the young guys who say they are doing it all in their head I would say "prove it if you want help from me". | |
