Ed, one thing that hasn't been mentioned is the fact that beans need to be stressed while in the vegetative state, either by weather or by chemicals such as Cobra, Reflex, Blazer, etc. If they don't undergo stress they get too tall and the internodes are too far apart, and therefore not enough pods. We went 6 weeks (last 1/2 of June and all of July) with no rain here, then had 13" of rain in the month of August, after this I had the best crop of beans I ever raised. People who had double crop beans here didn't have as good of yields as the full season beans because they were never really stressed after they had some size on them.
