Help me get this straight. You will have say 950 # stock when done grazing this year due to low grain content on your corn? And you are thinking of doing what I am doing, which is leaving calves at home to eat extra grass? Ok great idea EXCEPT for a few things. 1. I would guess your calves would lose condition so yes you have controlled your grass but you have lost money doing it. 2. I would not want to lose a demand you have for your calves as fed beef. To be honest IMO the only thing about your operation that is outside the box and geared towards net profit is your grazing standing corn and selling beeves. 3. Our calves are May June calves that rough it through the winter with a bit of mothers milk and grazing. They ,I seriously doubt, are in the same condition or size of your young stock. Think twice before doing the delayed grazing and like already said feed some to them. This is just my opinion. Ben
