Had one when I started farming on my own, my dad and grandad bought it new sometime in the 70's. They will penetrate and plant just fine, the trouble I had was closing the trench with that big wheel on the back. If you can adapt it to the closing wheels like the newer planters have, it will do fine. It wasn't so bad when seed was cheap and we could save our own but I wouldn't want to take the chance of not covering well now.
