Subject: Best way to get started in the cow-calf business?


OK, let's just say you are starting out a commercial cow calf herd based on todays economics and all the uncertainty of where the market and industry is headed, how would you start and what would you buy to try to maximize short term profit potential but also add sustainability and longevity to that herd. Would you buy primarily short term cows and keep some heifers back while trading those cows yearly. Invest in higher priced good young to solid mouthed cows? Bred heifers? Take a balanced approach and buy some of each?
