Not sure if everyone's been posting pictures of their red cows and calves because they're fast becoming such an oddity or if it's just because they're so much easier on the eyes. I like to think it's the second one :)
Since I'm talking about the reds, 2 weeks ago I bought a set of bred red heifers. Today at the fat-cattle auction at the same salesbarn where I bought them, one of the top-10 producers was the guy I bought them from selling fat red heifers. He got something like $1725 for the fat heifers and I paid $1275 for their bred sisters while the black bred heifers were going for about $300 more than I paid for the reds. Also noticed that 7 out of the top 15 producers at today's sale had either all reds or a mix of red and black . Out of almost 1000 fat cattle at the sale how many lots do you suppose had a red one in the ring? Kind of makes me wonder why the red calves get docked :) | |
