Central Nebraska | It was a good year here. Started planting corn 4-21, beans 5-1. Started irrigating June 10, which is 2-3 weeks before normal. I have never experienced heat like this summer, with so many days over 100. Even though irrigation costs were high, I won't complain, as I had the best corn of my short career. I had some beans that did not fair well on some ground that is close to gravel, and the dryland corn and beans were failures, but we were blessed to have good crops elsewhere. We also closed on the farm a couple of weeks ago, so we now own the house we live in and 68 acres around it.
The landlords were happy, the wife is happy, and I'm happy. Can't ask for much more than that. | |
