Martinsville, Ohio | 2012 was a very challenging year for me. I struggled to get the crop planted when I wanted to because of planting issues. I was not ready. I let myself be forced into planting days I didn't want to. I had the same hybrids planted in March, April and May and they yielded in that order but nearly the same. I had trouble with weed control and managing my cover crops into good seedbeds.
I learned a ton and hope I never have to go through this again and probably won't the same way. The best I can do is learn from my failures, be ready and not have to worry quite as much. I left yield on the table though I had good yields.
I saw a lot of guys this summer and I wonder how they did. I saw some awful crops and some beautiful crops. I wonder how their bottom line was with yields vs crop insurance?
I had a great year family wise so it made it all worthwhile. Our family became stronger through all the trials and tribulations of 2012 so that's the best blessing I could have.
