My numbers are close, but I didn't use options in 07. I don't have storage and I need to raise cash at the end of the year. Selling ahead has cost me a new pickup this year,07, but I remind myself that selling ahead has kept me in business, 06 did ok against selling off the field. I have two HTA 08 corn sales made back in 06 for 3.27, should have locked inputs then too. Just made another 08 corn sale and brought my average just over cost of production, also locked input costs last week. Just made my first 08 bean sale last week too, hope they yield as that's the big unknown here. What I have learned in 07 (the tuition cost was the price of a pickup) is for 08 and beyond: make more, smaller sales and not lock in prices too far ahead without knowing input costs. 09 CBOT prices look good right now but I have no clue what it will cost to grow them, so I sit on my hands.
