I have a 25+ year old old Honda generator that still starts 2nd pull almost every time. It has had oil changes, air filter cleanings. and one spark plug. When I do not expect to need it for a while, I kill it by shutting off the gas. As long as the carb is empty, there is never a problem. The gas in the tank is ok even if it sits for almost a year.
