I'm very glad you are asking your gas line and heat venting questions on here . . . .
BUT, I am concerned with your do it your self project experence . . . .
PLEASE, continue asking, BEFORE you tackle your projects - I would hate to hear of detrimental consiquences with your projects . . . .
Lots of DIY right way / experences with home projects on youtube and other sources - DO NOT TAKE SHORT CUTS, doing it simpler or cut corners ..  .
Holms on Holms wouldn't be happy with your projects, the way you are suggesting /asking ~
NO - do not vent it any way but through the roof and at the proper height above the roof. Consult HVAC professional for the proper height of your application.
