| Talked to a guy who used to be a Cat mechanic early this morning and he pretty much advised me against it if I could not find out the history of the engine. I think the dealer saying he doesn't know the history of it is a pretty good tip off that it is something to keep away from. I am crossing this one off my list. It is unfortunate since the rest of the truck is real nice.
I saw another truck, tandem axle IH a year newer with a 3176 and it seemed to be priced below what the same truck would have with a Cummins or 3406 Cat, or a Detroit, so it must be pretty much common knowledge the early 3176 Cats had problems. Thanks for the help, think you probably saved me trouble down the road. | |
