What I have seen is that you are right they are a hay eating machine, but if they aren't kept full they make a poor quality bale. A friend of mine had one for awhile and had quite a bit of trouble with it. Actually thought about buying one myself when I first started, but was told not to from friends that worked closely with the 100 baler.
