Subject: 910ppm nitrate silage bales advice?

livinthedream's corn silage nitrate thread has got me thinking. I have some sudangrass bales that tested 910ppm for nitrates. The guidelines for the test say 0-1000ppm is safe for any feed, but that's close enough to make me worry (the field is pretty far from uniform). My plan was to just unroll half a bale a day for my 40 bred cows while they have less desirable hay in rings. I did some reading about high nitrate feed and it seems like the risk for pregnant animals is pretty high and that's got me even more concerned. Am I just being paranoid, or would it be safer to slowly get my calves adjusted to the nitrates and then just feed it out to them free-choice? I was planning on sending them down the road in a couple of weeks, but I could stand to keep them around longer for this sort of job.
