I am running a registered herd and haven't had any issues with the platform. I, like Jim, like having the scales ahead of the chute so that I can weigh them while the vet is working them in the chute. The main reason I chose to not use scales under the chute is, in my mind, the less time I can have my cows spending in the chute, the less resistance they will have to being in it when they actually need to be. They have never resisted to move up the alley and onto the platform. Then after a few seconds, I will open the gate and they can run straight out through the chute. I believe this helps my working ability, being a one man operation, as the cows aren't always expecting the worst when I run them through.
