Subject: Green chopping roadsides

Cullom, Illinois
Ok, I think about this every time I mow roads. Why can't I buy a green chopper(flail chopper) and a silage wagon. I'd mow the top side of the road ditches. Not low, but high enough to not collect beer bottles and trash. Most side roads around here are pretty clean. I'd take the wagon home and dump the grass out in a windrow. Let it dry and round bale it to use in the winter for feed, in a mixed ration. Most road sides are brome and fescue with a liitle bluegrass.

I tried baling a few roadsides but the round baler does not work well with the slope. The flail chopper is offset to the right which shoud work better. Plus baling the roadsides requires two trips, one to mow and one to bale. Plus picking the bales up, which is not easy if they roll to the bottom of the ditch.

Seems like cheap feed going to waste to me.

Flame away!
