Press release from Senator Casey: Pennsylvania Farmers to Receive Nearly $1M In Crop Insurance Aid

Federal, State Effort Will Help PA Farmers Know About Their Crop Insurance Options

Monday, December 3, 2012

Washington DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that a federal investment of $930,000 will give Pennsylvania farmers additional aid as they weigh options for crop insurance. Additionally, the funds will provide technical assistance to farmers across the Commonwealth so that they can better manage risk when it comes to potential crop destruction.

“Crop insurance is a vital tool for Pennsylvania’s farmers and these resources will help them be prepared in case the worst happens,” Casey said. “Pennsylvania’s agriculture industry is a major part of our state’s economy. I’m pleased that USDA is directing these resources to our farmers.”

Buying a crop insurance policy is a risk management tool available to agricultural producers. These funds will allow the state Department of Agriculture and other stakeholders to work with farmers across the state to provide technical assistance and education about crop insurance.
