I think dairying and farming in general can be difficult no matter where you are. So many variables can bite you. High land prices, high rents, input costs, no rain, hail! we got half a corn crop this year but that's the way the ball bounces. We have ridiculous high land prices = that to well ove A million for a 1/4 section. Unless you have land paid for, deep pockets or daddy's money there is no way you can afford that. Have been farming for 26 yrs, by ourselves for 4 yrs. Want to continue to do so. High land rents and a **lovely, easy to work with land manger who want to help the little guy (** denotes sarcasm) may dictate otherwise. looking for options. Would love to relocate to eastern NM but they are in a worse drought than we were last summer. If anyone else has thoughts, by all means. throw them out there. thanks for the responses so far...
