If one suffers because of the other , you probably have a labor shortage. You can hire more labor. I guess you can also have a management shortage, but many aspects of crop management can be contracted out. Key thing is to do a good job at both crops and cattle. The value of the manure to crops is unbelievable, so the operations should be complimentary. Not to mention that cattle allow you more cropping options and possibilities of more intensive cropping. i.e. chop sileage, plant rye, chop rye, double crop beans or corn sileage.

I have seen some cattle feeders who are poor crop farmers. That doesn't have to be the case.
