Not a downer ! Deal is, I have a freemartin going to locker in mid-Jan,and a meat customer wants half and with $8 corn the steer pen is running low. So I'm going to grind this fat open cow. Downer cow reminds me of last winter the vet helped with a difficult calving. After I asked about giving the cow penicillin, his remark was " if she doesn't get up you could butcher her ", I gestured with my arm and said "with all these prime cattle,why eat her ?" Any how with 16 mouths to feed might as well grind this cow.
