NW Ohio | 5.5 - 6.0 with a JD750 I normally set my speed based on ground conditions like I suppose everyone else does. What will get you in trouble is bounce and soil displacment. If the ground is good and smooth and your not moving too much soil then you can speed up a bit. I find in our fields in most cases I notice some drill bounce if I go much over 6.5. In order to keep consistant depth the drill needs to ride level and what I call soft. If you get going to fast on most drills you start to get gang or row bounce. Deeres gang design seems to help with this allowing faster speeds but it will bounce too. I always liked my greatplains but I did usually run a little slower with that design. I probably don't run as fast as I could but I prefer slow and steady to balls to the walls in most cases. Of course rain clouds in the area normally earn an extra .5 mph or so.
