Ours is a Ambirad. IIRC they recommend 12" from the ceiling & 2' above any object. Ours is mounted on the truss that runs paraell t o the end of the door so hard to get anything to close as long as you pull in straight. As others have said, they can be mounted at a 45ยบ on a wall. I know a guy who runs a body shop. He mounted one on the ceiling (10'). Painted a car one day & left it parked under the heater over night. Had to repaint the car. If you do a lot of painting in your shop ytou'll want to bring the intake air in from outside. I checked with Ambirad when we put ours up & they said according to the cubic ft' of our shop we didn't need to exhaust it outside. I was skeptical so out a CO2 monitor near the exhaust the first winter. Thing never did go off so I put an elbow on the exhaust & pointed it back towards the middle of the shop. That way I get the benifit of the exhaust heat.
