Took pictures with my iphone during harvest. We were really blessed to have a good crop. Few of bean harvest and my afternoon help, pic of my neighbors massey harris colt he drove to the field, several of cotton harvest varieties included DP0912, ST4145LL, and DP 1137. Last pic is of the cotton that got destroyed by hail and was replanted late as recommended by most on agtalk, which turned out to be the right decision but was kind of sweating getting the bolls open. Thanks to everyone on ag talk that gave advice throughout the year.

Nice pictures.

What model pickers are those?

What picker do you like best?

With the dry weather we started with, I would have never dreamed we would avg over 2 bale cotton. Corn avg was 40 bushels over 800 acres. Lack 30 acres of beans and our season is over with. Will sure be glad this one is over.

97 model CIH 2155 and 96 model JD 9965, I like the green one better, heads are way simpler and require less maintanance. That said I'm probably going to sell at least the red one or maybe both and go to one green six row. I figure by this spring there could be some really cheap 6 row basket pickers. It kind of gets to be a traveling circus with the two pickers, boll buggy, builder, stalk cutter, etc. In good cotton the builder can't keep up with the two four rows. Your right the fat lady was getting warmed up around the forth of July on the cotton and beans, but what a turn around. I'll still plant some cotton next year although I'll be one of just a handful in my county. I'm also in the broiler chicken business and don't have to buy fertilizer so the economics are a little different on cotton for me.

It's amazing how we had the worst corn crop ever and the best bean crop ever in the same year!

We have a neighbor that picked our cotton for the last 15 years. His last picker was a 620 CIH. Great picker but there was always something little wrong with it. Just could not get the minor bugs worked out of it. Well it burned last year, and he did not buy another picker.

We purchased a 2001 JD 9976 6 row picker for this year and absolutely loved the job it did. Inline heads were so much simpler and less maintenance compared to the CIH picker. The IH picker was newer and did pick faster, but we really liked the 9976 picker when we compared.

Probably only raise a couple of hundred acres this year too.
