Lee Co | if you cross state line you WILL need either apportion plates or a trip permit for each trip. Then you need a fuel permit, authority, and more. you cannot cross state line w/o these. a farm plate will get you a large fine if you get caught. Illinois is very money hungry and they watch for every
$ they can get. We could't go into Iowa from Illinois w/o these either. they watch the bridge a lot. So, then if you need commercial plates the insurance goes up, call your insurance man and get a quote FIRST before you purchase. this may also change the type of tractor and trailer size and length you consider.
in Illinois you need about a 186 inch wheel base tractor with a 41 foot trailer to bridge 80k you can go to illinois dot and find exact figures. you will also need a US DOT number if you don't already have one plus file a heavy road use tax with the IRS annually for $550.00/ year
not trying to scare you just the current state of things. | |
