Ag seems to be countercyclical compared to the general economy and it seems to be the same players every time:

Major:
Inflation - we get more dollars for our product vs. costs (at first)
Cheap dollar - better exports - export demand could put upward pressure on domestic price
Poor economy - investment flows towards commodities

Not sure but seem to contribute
Gov. reaction to poor economy - stimulus $ going towards more dorito's?
During poor economies the last few dem administrations made sure we had healthy safety nets (got your insurance check yet? there is another coming to make up the 5.68 to 7.50 difference)

feel free to make additions or subtractions. As much as it's going to be bad for the regular economy, we should be alright for a while. I hate to say it, but the longer we are alright, the worse things will get (we still just grow a commodity).
