| BB, I've been watching this board for months and haven't felt motivated to sign up and reply until now. Am (hopefully) at the tail end of a hideous bout of sciatica myself; let's just say, I can relate.
Couple of things my doc recommended that have worked well for me. First, I've kept Aleve in my system almost constantly for the last two months, and have rotated it with Tylenol for pain relief. So, I take three Tyl roughly every 4-6 hours, and three Aleve every eight hours. Feels like a lot of drugs, and it is, but I can tell when I miss a dose by even an hour. Make sure you take your Aleve (or Advil, though Aleve works much better for me) with food.
Second, he prescribed physical therapy...though it always hurts to do, I always feel better afterward.
Brother, I feel your pain. Sitting/driving hurts me the worst. Also, my phys therapist told me this...I waited a while before going to the doctor, just because I thought I was dealing with a regular old backache. She says, however long you were in pain before you start treatment, it'll be about that long before relief is complete. So, I noticed pain in June, slowly got worse until I went for treatment at the beginning of October...she's telling me I likely won't be completely pain-free till February.
Wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery...ice, Aleve, and Tylenol are your friends. | |
