So, did he get a new job? or is he doing the same job, but they gave him a new title?

I would have guessed that a "Specialist Generalist" sounds like a management position - someone who oversees Specialists, a variety a specialists, to be exact.  I would also have guessed that it sounds like it could have been a title in a military career; however, if it was, I would suspect that many on here would have been familiar with the title.  So, I tossed that thought aside. Still, sounds like a title that fits into a "very rigid" organizational structure.
