SE MN | We pulled an 11 shank Hiniker disc/chisel with a 4840 in heavy soils and it handled it alright, usually 4th gear in the power-shift. I don't recall the model of the tillage tool, but it would have been made in the mid-late 80's. Then we got a 4955 MFWD and pulled an 11 shank 6650 Case/IH (which is identical to a Glencoe SS7400) and that was all that tractor wanted.
My point is, I do not think the 4840 would've handled the 11 tooth Case/Glencoe soil saver very well at all because it has auto reset shanks with much higher tooth trip pressure. The Hiniker was like a lot of those chisel plows you see from the 80's with the double upright spring assembly and whenever you get into hard ground, tough conditions or drove too fast they just spring back, whereas the other machine would keep the teeth at the desired depth. The newer Case/Glencoe machine pulled harder. Also, we aimed for a minimum of 8 inches.
9 shank if it something like the Case/IH 6650 or Glencoe SS 7400. Otherwise, you might try an 11 tooth. | |
