EC Kansas | I am experiencing the same conditions and have come to the same conclusions as you have. I am leaning hard to no milo and putting in corn instead. My milo and corn both yielded 30 this year, and wheat following corn kicks butt. Milo is not as friendly to the following crop. So I get back the extra fertilizer cost of corn with the next crop.
I am expecting another dry year for the 2013 summer. Eventually the weather patterns will change, but it may be a few years. Looking back over the last 100 years the patterns come and go, extremes come and go and the last 20-25 years have been on average pretty good to us. We are now in a dry extreme pattern.
I do find it amazing how the corn is doing compared to milo. I am growing no regular beans, and just DC after wheat.
I don't know for sure what is going to happen with the weather patterns long term, but for this coming year, just expecting another dry year.
Kind of a different think state from a few years ago when we thought we were the new Iowa. Mother Nature fooled us. | |
