central - east central Minnesota - | Brassring - 11/4/2012 05:23was just kicking this around, so I thought I'd ask the experts on here for a answer, I would like to build a new home, it would be a basic ranch house type home with the basement area a complete open walk out and we would basicly live out of the bottom, (south facing) and upper would be extra rooms and rec area, was thinking of putting floor heat in the bottom and use a large water heater to heat ,closed loop, I don't intend to heat the area just keep the floor warm to the touch, (rest of main heat will be propane) will this work or am I thinking all wrong, wife has nixxed the idea saying I'm nuts!! (which is true but never proven) so I'm looking for some advise here. Thanks for any and all replies Bob You do not need a large water heater . . . . . On demand heater or a very small water heater will work very efficiently. Another consideration is insulation under the concrete. Not that bubble foil stuff either .....Real 2 inch foam that alone will take the damp chill off the concrete. And don't forget the plastic vapor barrier. If you have a southern exposure walkout, the sun will help heat the concrete, with enough windows/solar.You would not need forced air, if designed properly. |
