Northeast Louisiana
Pokey, I completely understand where you are coming from. Got a few young people around just don't get it. I would keep it quiet about storing up stuff. If family and close friends show up, yes, I will feed them. I see no point to tell the entire community that you got stuff and let them sit back and depend on you. Unless you really trust them. I live in a community that lives off the land, eat beef, and hunt wild game. What scares me is town folks comming out to country to find food. Most are prepared for defense. Most of my neighbors are from the same family that were here in the early 1900's. The community worked together to survive. Each household will take turns to kill a hog and the neighbor hood will eat from it. Nothing gets spoiled that way. I remember Dad talking about it. Now, everybody will run to wally fart to buy food. Lots of people will grow a garden and put it in a freezer, BUT how long a freezer will last without power in a major turnmoil? Mason jars are common here. My father in law still cans in mason jars everything from the garden very often. Including venision. If the chaos were to hit, it will never affect him. Very good guy, just grew up in the depression and knows how to live off the land. I like the old song Hank sings, Country boys can survive!
