North West IA/western AZ

it will work good down to about 25-28 degrees ambiant outside temp then your back up heat source in the geo unit will kick in whether it be gas or electric depends a lot on insulation in house, windows wind, and even oriantation of the house north south east west

You must be thinking air to air heat pump. Geo use the heat of the earth as transferred by water pumped thru a loop. I have my backup shut off and have not needed it for 2 winters.
