| Yeah I've even done it. Way back and in a time before much cash I ran a lot of well worn / worn out junk pickups when we finally got to the point of being able to just barely afford a second vehicle.
In PA at the time rust was a state inspection killer, so you filled it with putty. Sanded it down and left it dry before painting it. Later the money for paint always seemed better spent on other necessities and the idea of having one clean, shiny spot of paint on an otherwise well dulled or rusted pickup seemed foolish.
The idea of throwing a running, working pickup away because of a rusty fender never occurred to me at the time.
Now that I'm so far above that kind of behavior I think about what I'll do when my current 25 year old pickup starts to rust out, and I believe I'll still patch it, but by gawd, I WILL paint it with a coat of grey primer. | |
