I was on the local vfd many years ago. I am familiar with triage and why it is needed. Anyway, once the main rescue efforts have been done, the rest is left to the pros and volunteers in that field. If you have supplies, and you are able to get some shelter and collect your supplies. You can live on your own, with your family until power is restored and resources are available to rebuild. Those that do not believe in any sort of preparation, will have to wait in the food line for their ration, and live and sleep in whatever public temporary shelter is put up with no privacy or familiarity. If they knew you had supplies, and decided to instead find a way to get to your place, what would you do? That is the point of not letting out that you have supplied for an emergency. Helping with the initial rescue and saving lives is a no brainer IMO. I would do whatever I could to help with that effort. Beyond that?? |
