Subject: RE: Calmer rolls

Southeast Minnesota

We have the BT Chopper rolls.  We thought they were great.  We first put them on the two rows run over by the combine tires.  After 150 acres we put them on the other 6 rows.

They do not completely replace a stalk chopper.  If you like a totally mowed down look you still need to chop.  We can now chisel with zero problems on plugging.  We are only selectively chopping (higher and a lot faster) certain fields based on variety that was planted (tough stalks) and crop plans for next year.

Really impressed with what happens to the stalks as they go through.  Basically turn into confetti.  Generally only thing left is untouched stalk, husks, and a few longer stalks that were tougher ( variety dependent).

We used to have IH 800 series heads.  Got a 2208 last year.  Big difference between those two.  Now with the Calmer rolls, we have stalks chopped up ALOT more than we were used to with the 800 head knives.

First picture is the confetti left underneath.

Last picture is the dividing line between standard rolls and the Calmers.  The picture does not really show how much difference there was.
