Anyone who had parents or grandparents live through the 1920's on a Montana wheat farm have grown up with stories how tough things were. The 20's out here were so tough the crash of '29 and subsequent events were just another bump in the road. My Grandfather bought a new HOLT pulltype combine and a small AC cat tractor to pull it. He did custom harvest work as well as his own. Bought it new "on time" and came to the point he could not make the payments. Had a friend write the company and explain the situation. Company extended the payments and my Grandfather was able to pay it off finally. This took place in the late 1920's......My Grandfather, whose farm I am on lived to be 100 years old and died in 2002. he never borrowed a dime again the rest of his life.........................................................
