Kinda weird if they're not spooky afterward. We've had it happen numerous times at one farm, big creek runs through, weaned calves will mow over 5 wire fence and bust of 4-5" hedge post for 60' stretch. That could be coons fighting we determined. Sounds like yours could be dog chasing if they're not spooky. Mark is correct, a couple of cows in there will keep them level.
