Subject: RE: ILL electricity costs

Seaforth, Ontario

Here, in Ontario, Premier McGuinty had a vision of Ontario totally relying on green energy. Closing down coal-fired plants, subsidizing wind turbines and solar panels were part of his dream. Green programs were so rich that there was not enough infrastructure to transmit all power to where it was needed; originally offered about 80 cents/KWH, then when they saw the interest, it was lowered to around 60 cents/KWH. NIMBY also slowed or stopped some projects. Household rates are around 11 cents/KWH now and on the rise. Rates have been subsidized after consumer backlash; warnings are for sharply higher rates in the near future.

After moving a gas-powered generating plant from a heavily populated area in order to win that seat in the last election and getting caught in a coverup, the Premier resigned and prorogued (paused) the Legislature until a new leader can be chosen for the governing party (next January). So, it's a guess what direction Ontario will be going next year.
