Beresford SD | I lived through the 80ies and Farm Credit did not treat us in a way I was very comfortable with. We were always current and paid the 17% interest that accrued but I felt we got no better treatment than the ones they wrote down and the rest of us ending paying for. Then later on the Board of Directors tried to sell Farm Credit to Rabo Bank until the members got a grass roots movement together and stopped the sale. After that they started paying dividends every year since because it is a Coop. Right know the dividend lowers the effective rate 3/4 to 1% so on operating and land loans no one can compete. I know because I am always checking. I have been very satisfied the last several years but you need to remember all banks will be nice as long as things are going good. You need to be in a position you can pick up and move at any time. | |
