Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80 | I'm thinking that you have a very high resistance, in the light switch, BUT when you remove the bulb, to test for voltage, it "test" ok(reads 110), BUT you don't have any load (light bulb) in the circuit.
If you have a test light, like this, I would be curious to know what the volt reading would be with a light bulb(in the black tester) and you guys using those two wire leads, to touch the fan/light socket connections AND take readings on those two wires(at the same time){now, there is a "load" in the circuit WHILE the meter is testing/measuring for voltage}
