Totally agree.
Split the main frame of the old 7720 JD I had. Pro welder that came to help me get it back square and weld it up did it with plates - welded top and bottom, but NOT the ends. Hwe told me that would create another weak spot. Lasted the next 6 yrs till I got rid of it. Far as I know it is still going strong.
