SE IL and SW IN | Ed,
I will repeat that I think that radishes are an incredible plant, but we are not talking about radishes planted in August or September here. It is October 12 with the soil temps in the 50s. My three week old radishes have their first true leaf this week. I will not deny that there might be a strategy where radishes planted today might give some benefits, but the odds of a producer getting a return on his seed and labor is greatly reduced, especially for the cover crop novice. You and I are adults and know the risk and rewards for pushing the too late date, and I have done it on thousands of acres and am still not sure where it is, but I will repeat that it is irresponsible to recommend this or any high risk strategy to the novice user. | |
