Continual health problems with my cows?

Listen, I take exception to your constant harping on my herd health management skills. I think you all would do well to lay off the personal comments.

The dairy industry is significantly different than the beef industry.

I do not think we have any more problems than the next guy, as a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure we have less. We just try harder to fix them, because it costs a lot of money to make a new cow nowadays.

We have a 25% cull rate. That is VERY low for the industry. We had 2 cows with Ecoli mastitis this year. Prior to this, we have had maybe 1 case in the last 3 years. We have increased our herd size from 40 to 200 milking and dry dairy cows in 12 years without bringing in any new blood. You do not do this by being a stupid, or even negative, manager.

I think consumers realize that cows get sick and sometimes even die.
