Thompsontown, Pennsylvania | the only thing better at keeping a face fresh than a silo unloader is a shovel......if your short on cows compared to usual, you should have plenty of alfalfa haylage right? feed 70#+ of corn silage all winter, stretch your hmsc, then when spring comes, crank up the amount of good haylage, drop back on corn silage (sell some if you have extra, i am, 50/50 bmr for $60-80/ton) and feed more hmsc AND not have to buy as much canola/bean meal or distillers, or roasted beans.....once its in the silo who cares if corn is $9 a bushel.....it'll be cheaper in the hear and now next summer to feed it and not buy in protein....just my $.02
