Kingston,Mi
Dad removed 2 brick from each stud bay (house is a balloon frame with the lumber sheeting on the inside and at that time a brick veneer without any outside sheeting), the spray foam company arrived and applied the the expanding foam to each bay until it appeared in the top hole. 10 or 15 years later I removed the brick veneer and found that the early version of foam insulation had failed and turned to crumbly dust. It left enough traces behind to show that it in fact had filled each stud bay completely, so my experience would be generally favorable with todays better foam and installation procedures.

I fire blocked each stud bay then applied fiberglass bats covered with 1 inch silver mylar covered styrofoam then applied Cedar siding. One wall had blown cellulose instead of fiberglass, that worked well also.
