West Chazy, New York
I grew up on a dairy in South central PA. For fun I played in a brass choir. One of the trumpet players came to Hawaii to get his doctorate, and while he was here I came for a one week visit. One afternoon I walked to the Dept of Ag office on King Street, Honolulu and spent a few hours talking to some folks there (they don't get many tourists, so it was interesting for them as well). Sugar was really starting to fall apart then, so there were some opportunities, I was tired of cold weather and ready for something different, so I moved here and grew corn silage for the dairies until they all went out of business. Now I do custom tillage and install irrigation systems, plus consult on a few alternative energy projects, which is kind of like selling hay to horse people. My wife is from upstate New York and misses that and Hawaii isn't as fun as it used to be (I think half of the 47% live on the North Shore), so we may end up back on the East Coast someday, who knows. I still dream of spending a year or two on a boat, but I would rather stay married.
