Northeast Louisiana		In 1967, about 6 months before I was born, my dad gave up a lucrative minimum wage career in the nail driving industry to follow some of his in-laws to Louisiana. My grandfather on my mother's side had sold his small farm in SE Missouri and bought a much larger place down here. My Dad loaded up their few belongings, his pregnant wife, and $500 in cash in his 20 year old pickup and moved down here for a year or so to help my grandfather get the new place cleared up. He ended up renting a little land, then some more and before long he was well established. This was at a time and place where it was still possible to do such things if you were willing to work hard at it, I know it's much harder now. I often wonder where I'd be had Dad not taken that chance. We've done well here and I have a lot of dear friends here but this area has its problems. I'm envious of people who live in places where they can send their kids to public school and things like that but overall I like it.
