West Central Alberta Coldest, wettest edge
Coincidental timing, I was just looking out the window at the unseasonal snow coming down, and commented to my wife, who is from Russia, that I have an excuse for living here(born here), but she could have moved anywhere in the world. Instead, she moved from one cold country to another. Why did she choose this one? Then I opened up this thread and here is the same question.

As far as I can tell, my maternal grandfathers father choose this area since he heard there were other Scots. My maternal grandmother moved here from civilized Vancouver after meeting my grandfather in a military hospital after the war. That was a culture shock, and greatly displeased her mother. My paternal grandmothers people came from the midwest around the turn of the century, not sure why, likely available land. Apparently some of the brothers were escaping south America where they were accused of being horse thieves, I suppose this is as far away as they could get? And no one knows where my paternal grandfathers family came from, or why it is such a secret.

And I'm still here because I wasn't brave or smart enough to go and buy real and affordable farmland in Saskatchewan a few years ago when I should have been.
