S.E. Nebr.
Guys can you give me an update on feeding cattle. We quit feeding cattle in 1983. Had a bad year far as drought on crops. The last load of feeders we got all were sick off the semi. Luckily we had the vet there and we loaded the feeders back on the semi and told the driver we weren't taking them. Cattle buyer bought them for us but I can't remember what happened to the feeders when the truck left. I think they ended up in a feedlot somewhere.
We used to buy feeders at 600-700 lbs. Feed brome to start out with, then silage and supplement plus alfafa. Sold them as fats 1200 lbs or so.
So whats the profit margin on cattle today. Is the feed price is making a big difference? Thanks.
