Yep this is probably headed to the boiler room. As mentioned the guy at the elevator may not know but if his wife or someone else works at the school he very well could know. I can assure you the cashier at the school knows. "Here" very very few of the free lunch qualifiers are audited if any. We're about 70% on free or reduced lunch here. I can assure you that there are LOTS of cheaters. No you will not be able to find out who is and who isn't on the rolls officially. I've often wondered why USDA payments to farmers are public records but benefits given to others are not. I can assure you that our free/reduced lunch load would drop some if they did because people would be upset to see who was on that list I promise.

Just to be clear my kids have always gone to private school so I've always furnished their lunches every day. On a side note I have often advocated just giving every kid at public school a free lunch. Cut out the paperwork and the payroll and it would probably be a wash and everyone is for feeding kids right? Not so fast. There is a group who will (does) oppose because then it would be an added "benefit" given to "rich" people and then there is the government employee system that will fight it to the death because of the loss of jobs. So now what? What a ridiculous system we have. The free/reduced lunch system is kind of a pet peeve of mine because I've seen the inner workings that most haven't. I definitely don't begrudge the kids their meals would just like the system to be less subject to manipulation by parties that don't really care about getting the kids fed or the cost. My two cents.
